A19 Silicon & AV1 Decoding Architecture

Underneath its familiar slim, square chassis, the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K transitions to Apple’s A19 chip. This upgrade delivers substantial computational gains over the previous generation’s A15 Bionic architecture. The silicon powers a dedicated AV1 video decoder, enabling high-efficiency streaming at lower bandwidths, alongside enhanced local processing for complex on-screen graphics and responsiveness.

Storage has also been standardized. The device arrives with 128GB of internal storage as the sole configuration, coupled with Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6 support.

Hands-Free Siri AI and Onboard Microphones

The centerpiece of the software experience is Siri AI, driven by advanced language models and local privacy protections. The streaming box incorporates three built-in far-field microphones on the device itself. Users can now speak commands directly to the room without needing a remote or a nearby smart speaker. Contextual queries regarding on-screen media, cast details, or age ratings appear via a minimal overlay in the corner of the display.

For audio enthusiasts, the platform introduces support for a four-speaker surround sound configuration. Users can pair matching sets of second-generation HomePods or the new HomePod mini 2 speakers to create a spatially calibrated living room audio array.
