Vivo is skipping the number four entirely for its next flagship series due to regional superstitions surrounding the number. The company has scheduled a major hardware event on September 21 in China to unveil the Vivo X500, X500 Pro, and the ultra-premium X500 Pro Max. Backed by a high-profile marketing campaign fronted by Jay Chou, this lineup aims to capture the premium mobile photography crown with radical sensor advancements, massive battery capacities, and next-generation silicon.
TSMC Two Nanometer Silicon Debuts on the Pro Max
The top-tier Vivo X500 Pro Max is set to be one of the very first devices running MediaTek’s newly announced Dimensity 9600 Pro chipset. Built on TSMC’s cutting-edge 2nm process node, this silicon represents a major generational leap in thermal efficiency and processing density. The architecture includes the new Arm C2 CPU cluster, led by high-performance C2-Ultra cores, paired with a Mali G2-Ultra NX GPU. MediaTek’s native AI architecture on this chip allows for advanced on-device agentic AI capabilities, neural graphics rendering, and native 4K 120fps Cinema Log video processing.
This bleeding-edge silicon comes with a premium price tag. Industry reports indicate the Dimensity 9600 Pro processor costs device manufacturers roughly $220 (around ₹18,500) per unit. This high component cost will inevitably push the retail price of the X500 Pro Max deep into the premium tier, setting up a direct market clash with upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 devices and Apple’s top-end models.
LOFIC Technology and Modular Zeiss Optics Redefine the Camera
The photographic hardware on the X500 Pro Max reads like a spec sheet for a dedicated mirrorless camera. The primary camera uses a customized Sony sensor equipped with Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) technology. By using a physical capacitor to store excess light during bright exposures, the sensor prevents blown-out highlights and achieves an astonishing 17 stops of dynamic range. The mid-tier X500 Pro also prioritizes optical performance, carrying a 64MP Zeiss APO super-telephoto lens with an 85mm focal length. This setup is a miniaturized version of the physical optics package introduced on the older X100 Pro. It has a professional CIPA 7.0 stabilization rating, ensuring crisp handheld shots even at maximum zoom extension.
The Standard X500 Packs a High Density Battery into a Slim Frame
While the Pro variants focus on extreme zoom, the standard Vivo X500 targets a balance of ergonomics and unprecedented endurance. It has a highly pocketable 6.59-inch 1.5K OLED display. The secondary telephoto camera uses the same 64MP Sony YT-610 sensor found in the pricier Pro model, allowing the base device to capture 4K slow-motion video at 120fps. Under the hood, the standard X500 runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600M platform, a slightly modified version of the flagship 2nm architecture.
Design Shifts and Global Availability Timeline
Leaked official renders show a clear design split within the family. The X500 Pro and Pro Max retain the familiar centered, circular Zeiss camera housing, with the Pro Max adopting a flat metal frame, dual stereo speakers, and a customizable physical action button. In contrast, the standard X500 moves its circular camera module to the upper-left corner on a raised rectangular plateau, a design language reminiscent of recent Honor flagships. Color choices for the Pro models include silver, black, and a standout warm orange shade, while the standard model will ship in white, gray, black, and dawn.
The initial September 21 launch will cater exclusively to the Chinese market, where the devices will ship with OriginOS 7 based on Android 17. Historically, Vivo’s premium X-series requires three to four months to transition to international markets. Indian consumers can expect a localized launch, featuring Funtouch OS, to take place in late 2026 or early 2027, where the series will face off against the OnePlus 14 and Samsung’s Galaxy S27 series.
